A long-range Sejil missile was launched in Iran on Monday. According to Iranian TV’s Arabic language news station, the missile was launched at 10 a.m .local time.

The weapon uses the same kind of technology that is used for satellites and rockets launched into space.

Alalam's correspondent says the missile is not restricted by certain geographic locations, and could be launched from anywhere in Iran.

Iranian Officials previously said that the Sejil has a range of up to 1,240 miles (2,000 kilometers).

Washington is calling the test firing a "provocative" act, coming as it does just days ahead of Tehran's meeting with major powers.

U.S. defense officials say the missile has the range to hit Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf.
