True however, since this is in the faith and beliefs section it is fair to say what I'm about to say.
Humanity as a whole has been systematically desensitized to events and negative things over centuries. Think back even just 100 years. What would those people say about today?
It's the old frog in a pot of boiling water concept. Throw a frog in a pot of boiling water and it'll try like the dickens to get out because it's PAINFULLY OBVIOUS something is wrong. But if you put a frog (the common people) into a pot of room temperature water (let's say before the industrial revolution) and slowly turn up the heat (wars, famines, general depravity) that frog will die (in our case be duped beyond the point of no return) because it doesn't notice the tiny increments by which the temperature of the water is raised (the general people slowly lowering their moral standards, allowing gov't to do more for them, listening to all the whackjobs through the years).
That Lucifer has had the entire history of humanity to come up with a perfect way to draw people away from God. To distract us. Bait and switch. Et cetera, et cetera.
Think about it. If your boss told you over and over again you were getting a raise at your job. The first time you are told you may start to think of all the things you can buy with this 'extra' money. You tell your friends and family. You feel confident and appreciated. First week, no raise. Your confidence weakens, you get upset, you have to put off your planned purchases. Second week, no raise. You're starting to get frustrated. Third week, no raise. You've written the whole thing off and come to realize that maybe you're not getting a raise after all. Time after time you search your paycheck only to find you never get it. Are you going to believe your boss when he says he's going to actually do it this time? You won't, until you actually see it because you've been desensitized to the idea and reality of actually getting a raise.
It all comes together, everything is working together in the end. I know it's a cliche, but "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist".
There is a spiritual world beyond what we can see, feel, or prove that is more active than we could ever imagine.
Is 2012 for sure the year the world will end? I'll get back to you on this one...
