I myself have liked AMD since I bought my first PC in 2000 for college. Glad to see something finally knock down the giant a bit.

AMD had the edge up until the Pentium Pro / PII because they had licensed DEC Alpha technology. Intel stole DEC Alpha technology for the Pentium Pro / PII (same architecture, different packaging). DEC sued Intel and won, Intel ended paying DEC (then Compaq) a royalty fee for every chip built after the Pentium. This was why Intel was always more expensive than AMD until HP bought Compaq... I'm pretty sure HP gave Intel a break and cut a deal where they get Intel CPUs at a discount.

If you ever wondered why am Intel system by HP/Compaq is less than the exact same system by another manufacturer, this is the reason.

Yep, yep. I can say that I am glad that I am out of the biz now. I got into the IT industry in its infancy and it was fun and profitable then. Now, I do not have to work, but I toy around with it sometimes and the majority of the time I get that old standby "You are over qualified for anything we have"...and it is not like I am going out to be a phone tech or even a mid-level sysadmin. I am happy to be unemployed and daytrading now.

I hate "you're over qualified". I switched fields because of that. Every once in a while I'll give a friend a copy of my resume to show to someone... "we can't afford this guy" is the usual reply. LOL. They never believe me when I say it isn't all about the money, the money is important but there are other things that make up for some money. These days I usually dumb down my resume when I'm applying for a non-IT job.
