Need a stat for discussion purposes. Of the people on welfare at any given time, which way would they vote politically? Is there a place to find an indicator of these numbers?

Just looking at the area around here, my answer is clear that the vast majority of those on welfare are Democrats. But that's not to say that it holds true for all of the U.S. or even the Southeast Region as a whole.

If anyone can find this or point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Most statistics are made up on the spot.

Yeah, yeah, hardy har ... even if it's not a direct number like the thread title indicates, just something that is actual evidence one direction or the other.

Logic would suggest that the vast, overwhelming majority of welfare dependants are Democrat voters. Im interested to see if a reliable statistic can be found.

There was a news article within the last few weeks that talked about the hardest hit sections of the country also being the largest recipients of government aid being Democratic strongholds.

That makes perfect sense. If you live in an economically depressed area you want the party that promises the most aid to win. That is the Dems. The chances are you are on welfare and the party that says they will keep the welfare benefits flowing is usually the Dems. There are whole families that have been on welfare for generations, they wouldn't know what to do without the government handout... they will keep voting for whichever party says they will provide the most welfare benefits.

There are many people out there who needed a hand (welfare or some other government program) who used it for the least amount of time possible until they got back on their feet.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with using the services provided while you get back on your feet, as long as you make an effort to get back up. My family always struggled when I was growing up, and we used food stamps for a little while. But my parents got things going and were able to stop using them. They used the system the way it was intended to be.
My problem is with people who mooch the system and make little to no effort to better themselves and their contribution to society.
